The Move...

This is all of us telling you... We've Moved!!!

So as prey animals we are skittish, and as being skittish we dont    like change...At All in fact. So its taken us a while to adjust to the new area. moving us was a little...difficult, First we had to be moved to crates and then our cages had to be taken apart, we we're put into the car and on the way over Smoky decided he had to get away so he peeked out of his crate and then jumped onto the backseat, one of our owners was sitting with us and she freaked out and started trying to catch him, he of course was not thrilled to have been caught, though he liked being held the whole way there. Then we had to wait for our cages to be put back together, and have fresh blankets placed,  finally we got to be back in our home...or so we thought, we we're in a whole new place wondering when we would get to go back, now a week later we know that this is our New Home, And we're happy to be here.

Guinea Pig Noises

                                                 Hello Humans
This is Charlie and i will be explaining the noises we make depending on what we are feeling

                                          Good Noises

  • Low Squeaking/Purring: Usually can be heard when being pet or are generally enjoying ourselves.
  • Wheeking: a higher squeak that can be heard when our favorite human comes into sight and also if we hear plastic bags or the fridge opening, As we know this means food is coming, we also use this sound to find each other if we are lost.
                          Neutral Noises

  • Rumbling:  can be heard when we are asserting our dominance or sometimes as a response to being scared or angry, when we are making sure we our the leader of the group we will slowly circle around one another and sway back and forth, this is called rumblestrutting.
  • Chutting: Can be heard when we are chasing each other.
  • Chirping: Sounds like a bird song, Usually related to stress or if a baby wants to be fed
                             Bad Noises

  • Chattering:  When we are scared or angry/stressed we make this sound
  • Squealing: We make this noise when we are in pain or in danger.
So hopefully you humans can help make sure we are happy by listening to these sounds

Happy Easter!

                                               This is
Sam Woody...

Charlie & Smokey, wishing you...
A Happy Easter, Humans and Guineas alike!
Now that its Spring and getting warmer we can go outside and play in the grass, We guineas love the grass and fresh air, Our humans let us sit by the windows so we can smell the outside, For a treat we can eat some fresh grass. as long as it doesn't have any icky chemicals on it, But don't let us just run we can get scared very easily and you could lose us if your not careful, We recommend a special piggy leash and harness that can most likely be found at any pet store, We can only be in 65 to 85 degree weather so not to hot or cold.
Have a Very Fun Happy Easter everyone!

Piggy Roomates

Hi Humans. Finally me and Charlie are living in the same pen.

Me and Charlie laying together.
Me and Charlie playing together.

We shared our veggies with each other and have been popcorning all around our pen. We will be getting a bigger pen between Mon. and Wed. next week. Very exciting to us as we will have even more
Our cage is on the way (Same model as Sam and Woody's)
space to run and play together. We like each other very much. I hope we can live together for a very long time. Sam and Woody love living
together as well so now we all have some piggy buddies living
with us.
You will notice if you have 2 or more piggies living together rather than one, that we
get a lot more active, which will help keep us happy and healthy pig pigs. You can order a cage like this of your own from Amazon.com, simply type in midwest guinea pig cage.

The Piggies Care Information

Hey there humans! I, Woody, will be telling you about what to do and what not to do if you have a guinea pig.

                                                           Care Information
We require fresh Timothy Hay everyday, as well as fresh pellets and water. If you have a guinea pig over 6 months of age only give your piggy a table spoon of pellets daily. We require veggies everyday otherwise we don't get our vitamin C. Do not give us piggies, alfalfa instead of timothy hay, unless we are under 5 months old or pregnant or we will become very chubby guinea's. We also require to have our cage cleaned completely once a week, Do not use Red Cedar or Pine wood shavings as their oils can hurt us, our humans use blankets which cost a lot less then buying us bedding every month, simply put a towel in our cage then lay a fleece blanket on it, wash the blanket when needed, we like the blanket lots more then that other stuff! Only give us pig, pigs pellets that don't have any coloring in it. If your guinea has already been eating stuff with colored pieces in it simply put a little of the new stuff in with the old and slowly add more and more of the new. Eventually we won't even notice were eating something different. We NEED to be held everyday.
We need our nails cut every so often. We need a bath every 3 months no more other wise our skin drys up. We recommend watching the following Youtube video before bathing your pig pig. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ7u_zp7BVs".

Hopefully you can can make your guinea pig happy
by following these general rules, like our owners do.

A Guinea pigs Habitat

"Hello humans! This is Charlie and today I will be telling you what you will need if you get a Pig, pig like us!"

Here is a list of what you will need . . .

  •    A House  It is important for us to have somewhere to hide and sleep.

Sam saying "Leave me alone I am trying to sleep!"
  •  A bigger cage  We need a lot of space to run and play!
  •  Another guinea pig of the same gender Some of us will get depressed if we don't have someone to play with! (Did you know its illegal to have only one of us in Sweden?
  •  Timothy Hay  we need it to be provided 24/7, otherwise our tummies will get upset!
(If you cant afford a bigger cage then we will need daily Floor time for exercise!)
                                                                     Toys
If we have all of the above then we should be happy piggies, but some toys will help
    enrich our life!
Woody kindly showing us how a tunnel works.
  • Cloth Tents   These can be a big hit with us, I used to have one and i loved it!
  • Paper Bags A cheap toy simply cut some holes in the side for some piggy fun, throw away and replace when dirty.
  • Tunnels  Can be used as a hide-away or a chew toy, or simply something to run through
  •  Cozies We love to cuddle up in them! Sam loved his!
  •  Crumpled Paper Simple but we love to chew it
  •  Baby Socks Stuff it with tissue, bedding, hay or cloth and it makes a comfy pillow!
  •  Apple Tree Branches Must be untreated wood and have aged for 3 months. (Did you know that a guinea pigs teeth grow constantly like other rodents? So we must always have something to chew)
A little imagination can go along way to make a piggy
happy! Just make sure we are safe with what you provide us!
Well that is all I have for you humans today. Sam will bring
you a safe food chart with veggies and fruits we can eat in the
                                          next few days!

Meet Teddy

Hey Humans! My name is Teddy. I live downstairs with the humans named Sadie and Jeff. I came into the house the same night Sam did. We were together at the pet store, so the humans think that Sam and I might be brothers. I like Sam and Sam likes me. Charlie, Sam and I used to like to run around downstairs in the family room, the humans would laugh at us, and we did tricks for them. Now we are getting older, and Sam and Charlie had some sort of disagreement, so the humans have not put us all together again. Maybe someday soon they will let us all hang out again together. They say that I am the calmest of all the pig pigs in this house, I just go with the flow.

                                                                    Teddy & Sam

Meet Smokey

Hello Humans! My name is Smokey, I joined the family earlier this afternoon. The humans are hoping that I can be a great friend and piggy pen pal for Charlie.
Right now I am still afraid of my surroundings, so I let the humans hold me and I do not move around much. I have met Charlie, as my pen is next to his, we have sniffed each other through the bars, and he talks to me, but so far I am not talking back, but give me a few days.
Emily is my human. She is very nice and gentle with me and Charlie, she talks softly to us. She made up my new home, it is so comfy, and I have everything I need. Thanks dad, for coming to get me, and for letting me come home to all of you humans.

Meet Woody

Hi Humans! My name is Woody. Finally I have a name that will stick, those humans could not decide what to call me, first I was Rusty, then I was Henry. Kara, came over the other night and said I looked like a woodchuck, thanks goodness they chose Woody for my name and not Chuck.
I am also pretty calm, I love to be held now, but was pretty scared when they brought me home to join the pig pig family 3 days ago.
Mom tried to put me in her shirt, like she does with Sam, but I scratched her, and tried to climb up her shoulder and down her back. That was the last time I have been in her shirt.
Mom had me in my own pen protected from Sam for a few days, but now Sam and I are together in our new piggy pen. I love to run into the tunnels, and to eat the hay. Sam is bigger than me, but I will not let him bully me. I think he likes me, I hope so.

Meet Sam

Hello Humans! My name is Sam. I am the second piggy to join the family. I came into the house 4 days after Charlie did.
I am more of a hyper pig pig, I don't like to sit still, I like to explore. My favorite place to be is in moms shirt, it's so nice and warm in there, and I can hear her heart. But she knows once I start chewing the buttons on her shirt that, that means I need to pee really bad, and it's time for me to go back to my pen.
I too favor veggies over fruit. All us pig pigs are so spoiled, we have a smorgasbord served to us 2 times a day, plus our pellets and our water.
Woody joined me in my pen a few days ago, mom had him separated from me, but we were able to sniff each other and talk to each other all the time. We are now together in our new pen, it came in the mail today.
I have been trying to teach him that I am the oldest, but he is such a scrappy little guy that he puts me in my place if I push him to far. He tires me out!

Meet Charlie

Hello humans! My name is Charlie, I became a family member in January, therefore I am the oldest. I am gentle, I love to be held by the humans in this house, but don't tell them that.
Sam and I used to be buddies, now Sam is scared of me. Yeah so I was a bit aggressive with him in our big pen we played in, so now he kicks me with his back legs whenever I am close to him, and chatters his teeth at me, and well I do it back to him too, I mean really, I am the oldest here.
My new favorite thing to do is sit on my wood house, as I am tall enough now to climb up there. Emily gave me a nice soft blankie to lay on and my own little sock pillow, so comfy.
Soon Smokie will be my piggy pen pal, he is in the other part of my pen, for now we are getting to know each other by smelling and talking through the bars. Hopefully he will become my best piggy friend.
I love my veggies, but do not like fruit very much. Emily is such a good pig pig chef, she feeds all of us a variety of nummy veggies everyday.

Welcome To Our Blog

Hi there, we are the Guinea's of Hansen House.
Welcome to our piggy pen.

 Charlie

Charlie was the first to join our growing family, he became a friend to Emily for her birthday.

 Sam

Sam was next to join, he belongs to Mom, she has such a soft heart, she didn't like that Sam was all alone at the pet store.

     Woody

I joined a few days ago, my name is Woody. Sam and I live in the same pen now, I belong to Dad, he has a soft heart like Mom does, he didn't like me being all alone either.

 Smokey

Charlie was lonely now too, so Smokey joined the family today. He will be roommates to Charlie in a few days, once they get to know each other better.

                                                                        Teddy

Oh and Teddy our best friend lives downstairs with Jeff and Sadie, he is fun too.

We hope we get lots of humans visiting our blog,
as we will be posting our life in pictures here,
as well as offering tips for other piggy owners out there.
